So... you want to play MUD2?

You've discovered this amazing game and you are desperate to play it, but aren't entirely sure how to go about it. The first thing to decide is where you want to play it. At present there are 2 MUD2 servers, both charge around £5 per month to play and both offer free trial accounts so you can see what you think of the game.

UK Server - Phoenix - Muddled Games Company - MUDII.co.uk

This server is ran by Karya & Foddy and was created when Wireplay/Gameplay went bust and the players had no where to go. After suffering a lull in players, it is becoming more active again. Regular events are ran such as bashes, quests and special wiz events (such as Treasure Hunts, Extravaganzas etc).

US/Canadian Server - MUD2.com

This server is ran by Viktor Toth and was created when Kesmai went down and the players were left with nowhere to go. It is currently suffering a lack of players, and if you play from the UK you will probably experience a fair bit of lag when playing.

Getting an Account

Both servers have web pages dedicated on how to create an account, so I won't repeat the information, please just use the links below :)

Clients

Once you have an account, you will need a way to connect to the game. Both games can be found using telnet, but telnet on the whole is not a good way to play the game, with a lack of scroll abilities and colour on standard clients it can be frustrating. Both sites offer Java clients on which you play from the Internet, although these are good to start on, they aren't good for longterm playing. Thankfully, there are clients available to play MUD2 on.

ZMUD - http://www.zuggsoft.com

ZMUD is an OK client, highly customisable and useful for a number of different MUDs. 30 day trial available on software, then $25 fee.

Clio - http://www.wabe.org.uk/clio/

Clio is a client designed especially for MUD2 users but can also be used as a standard telnet program for other MUDs. With many MUD2 specific goodies, this client is one of the popular choices for MUD players. Made by a player, for the players, it provides exactly what you are looking for and has regular updates. This client is available for free.

TWPMUD2 Client - http://twpmud2.mudii.co.uk/

TWPMUD2 client stands for Turrican's Wireplay MUD2 client, this client was based after the WP V2 software that MUD players used, in particular F2 & F3 modes. Simple and familiar, and free. Technical help is available from Turrican.

Links to other client sites can be found on the mudii.co.uk Link page (http://www.mudii.co.uk/links.mud).
